The one condition that had to be respected for anything to make its way succesfully into my consciousness and become so to speak a working part of it was that it should not undermine its purely functionnal compactness. This is moral re-established on the most practical grounds. This was not reckoning with the overlapping, or more to the point here, conflicting consciousnesses brough about by linguistically conditionned world views, and for a time, german, in my case, tended not only to dominate but to discredit and exclude world views enabled by other idioms save when the enabling expression could be perfectly as a single word or image be enchassé or taken up by a german context, this tending anyway in a remarkable degree toward appropriation. It allowed me to set about things at any moment in a sharp, efficient it seems, yet complex incisive way, Nevertheless this meant that a very repressive and wearing mechanism was subconsciously at work.
